The books we love when we're young change our lives forever, and so do the adults who help us to find & read those books. THANK YOU to all the amazing teachers, librarians & others who work so hard every day to inspire kids - we all owe you more than we can ever repay! #literacy

I know many teachers who've paid out of their own pockets to buy books for their classes, because their school budgets can't run to books any more. The underfunding has been chronic for years & that's why teachers are striking. No-one cares more about children & their education!

I completely resourced my own class library in my last job, spending hours scouring charity shops and boot sales to try and find the latest books at prices I could afford so that my classes had access to recent books and classics. It's not fair and not sustainable

If teachers and school staff stopped buying things for classrooms and for the children, and stopped doing all the extra hours, people would soon realise how badly funded education is by this government. But they won't because they want children to have what they need.

The majority of my whole class library has been bought by me. 1000s pounds if I add it up. Those books are mine but I adore sharing with children year on year. But when I go, the books go with me. As I bought them. Leaving an empty bookshelf. Government should fund

"Teachers are going on strike not only for better pay but to improve the recruitment and retention crisis in schools – which is doing more damage to my child’s education than an occasional strike day". Solidarity

I’ve been a teacher since September, more than one once I have had to buy a full class set of pencils because we had ran out in school. The strikes are about so much more than ‘wanting more pay’, they’re about wanting adequate funding and resources for our schools. #TeacherStrike

Despite being somewhat irked to have to entertain my children today, I fully support the #TeacherStrike. Our useless corrupt govt can find money to pay and subsidise themselves, but can’t find anything for our teachers or schools - it’s unacceptable.

The reason I strike isn’t because I hate my job. It is because I love the children that I have the privilege to teach every day. Every year. The experiences I give rely on proper funding for schools as I can no longer afford to buy all the resources I historically have in class.

40% of new teachers leave the profession within their first 5 years. They arrive with a passion to nurture children - but leave because of the overwhelming task they face & the lack of investment in schools over the last decade crushes them. It’s time to invest our children.

Question for Book Twitter… what are your top tips for world building? Whether it’s writing or illustrating, I wanna hear them. I’ve got an idea of what I’m doing, but my knowledge is limited to what I like to consume if that makes sense.I wanna know if I’m missing anything.

No teacher wants to be on strike tomorrow. We enjoy teaching. That's why we do it. But we can't go on getting progressively poorer. We can't go on letting essential support for pupils disappear. We can't go on watching colleagues leave the profession due to stress. We just can't.
