Of course, they're just way more complicated for novices and non-trained personnel, while 3 word addresses provide a similar level of accuracy for this use case and are much simpler to use.

"similar level of accuracy" is a lie. "complicated" is a marketing pitch.

I believe that, on the average smartphone, GPS precision is no better than a 3m x 3m square. If so....it is marginal in the extreme.
