A member of the public came across a person in distress in a layby on the A3 this morning. She wasn't sure exactly where on the A3 she was so we sent her a @what3words link - enabling units to respond quickly to the correct location. #LiveSaver #What3Wordspic.twitter.com/gDgSSgN6Ep

Unfortunately it is not open source, and that may be why RAC etcdont have it; It may cost £££

I see you did no research at all; https://what3words.com/select-plan?currency=GBP#view-tiers … Because here are their payment options.

I highly doubt they'll be charging the emergency services. I'll ping them here, @what3words hopefully they'll respond. Also, the app is free to use and download.

... Everyone else does. Do you think the police get their cars from BMW for free? 'I highly doubt' is quality facts there mate.

To clarify; what3words is not charging UK emergency services to use the system and our app and website are free for all.

I never said you did; I responded to the comment about the RAC. But for the RAC to use it they have to buy into a proprietary system and you have taken out lawsuits against those trying to implement an open standard for the same concept. 1/

If all this was about was safety, the standard would be open, and it wouldn't be about profit. Free to Emergency services is the same as BMW offering contracts at MUCH lower prices compared to other manufacturers; It's an advertising 'cost', that provides good PR. 2/

To Clarify; My experience is as a geospatial professional using geographic data in life/death scenarios. The idea is good, the implementation isn't. This is a way to profit from safety, not a true attempt at providing a safety service because you actually care.

What about @TheRAC_UK? Would they get to use it for free, or as a non-emergency service / commercial operator do they have to pay?
