A direct question to our local mountain rescue teams @edalemrt @woodheadrescue @HVMRT (and others) following a somewhat heated debate online... What Three Words...? Comments from you all welcome too.

If I ever got lost I'd love the 3 word location to be " *rse, feck, drink" Wonder if it exists?

It does. It locates on Craggy Island, Eire.

This is our front door. However, a slight error puts us in Central Africa, which severely affects our response times.pic.twitter.com/BFqKfvIBWG

Similar words have intentionally been placed far apart so small errors can be spotted easily and a more appropriate combination can be suggested.pic.twitter.com/oWijqevtkY

Indeed, I understand that. For single locations, that’s fine, but lat/long or OS Grids require the sequential nature of their code for navigation. MRTs and others have used W3W many times to locate casualties, which is amazing, but equally can be limited.

👍 | It has been amazing to see how we have helped MRTs And glad it can be a useful tool in your toolbox for point reference.

It should be said that W3W is a great addition to our location services, but as a navigation tool, (which is what we need more often than not) it stands to support other methods, not replace as some might think.
