I remember introducing @mawdesley_matt & a few others from @ao to the what3words app in a meeting over a year ago, after I heard how the emergency services where using the app to pinpoint exact locations.
Glad to see AO have implemented It now too!

There's a lot of criticism for W3W, have a read of this..https://shkspr.mobi/blog/2019/03/why-bother-with-what-three-words/ …

Interesting... I thought it was a great tool for the emergency services to be able to find casualties in the countryside for example. Nearly everything in today's world is about monetising... right?

I think the issue is that it would be a great tool if it worked offline. Because in some locations you don't have data but do have GPS and phone. So you could check your phone and read your w3w code - but you can't because you need data to look it up. Ergo, pointless

Hi M1ke, glad you like the system. To clarify; what3words works offline and doesn't need a data connection for you to display or find a what3words address.

Oh right, so once the app is installed the phone can remain offline and do lookups mapping it's GPS data to the relevant w3w code whenever it wants?

Correct. what3words is also built into various navigation apps that offer downloadable maps including @navmii @viewranger @pocketearthapp @AvenzaMaps | You can find more here: https://what3words.com/products/?category=Navigation … |
