The group rescued by @LochaberMRT last night from Ben Nevis used the app @what3words which uses three words to pinpoint co-ordinates, anywhere in the world, simplifying location finding. The three words that led to their rescue? Tortoises. Swarm. Announce

Not sure how well Police, Ambulance and Fire Controls are integrating this service into their call-handling procedures... clearly worthwhile. @what3words @polscotcontrol @Scotambservice @fire_scot

@what3words has been adopted by Fire, Police, Ambulance and Coastguard in Scotland. It’s used almost daily and has proved to be massive step forward and has no doubt saved a number of lives.

Wondering whether some control rooms are using their personal phones to use the app when a caller says they have it, as opposed to being an adopted practice/procedure by the control room. Perhaps @FireScot_Chief would manage to answer if this was implemented in our fire OCs?

Not yet for @SFRS as we still exist on 3 legacy mobilising systems. We will be integrating it into our new mobilising system next year.

I would have thought What3Words would remain separate from mobilising system, i.e. it would be used on desktop computer also used by OC personnel.

I wondered whether a SFRS OC policy should be created to instruct staff on how to use it and allow official use of the app to assist with address location.

Hi Stuart, what3words is integrated into a number of emergency response mobilising systems. You can find some of the software providers using us here: https://what3words.com/products/?category=Emergency%20%26%20safety …

I had no idea - great to hear. I hope the SFRS OC staff charged with implementing new (single) mobilising system will strongly consider adding the software to it. Thank you.
