Hi Ian, what3words is not charging UK Emergency Services to use the system. And it is free to download and use for individuals.

So I can integrate it into a command and control system for free?

Control rooms and call handlers use what3words either via http://map.what3words.com , our browser site or through their current CAD systems where for some software providers what3words has been made available as an address input.

So they are still typing lat lon coordinates in to the dispatch system, to convert to OSGB coordinates. Sounds like nothing could go wrong there.

Hi Ian, call handlers can take 3 words over the phone from a caller, type 3 words directly into their dispatch system, or our website, and can pass 3 words direct to officers or other responding services over the radio or digitally.

That’s true call handlers can accept “gears.factor.bleat” or “five, one, point, five, two, zero, nine, zero, one, space, minus, zero, one, nine, five, three, four, eight” | what3words also has error detection built in so mistakes can be spotted & corrected |pic.twitter.com/SO07aA3T3N

but the error is just as likely to be when they try to read "five, one, point, five, two, zero, nine, zero, one, space, minus, zero, one, nine, five, three, four, eight" off their phone to type in to the dispatch system (especially if they need OSGB coordinates).

Exactly, which is why using what3words through the whole of the incident response is proving effective. what3words has been built directly into many despatch systems. No need for OSGB, just read, type or send 3 words.
