Or try @what3words much easier to share locations.
Someone kindly explain why “what3words” could save a life but sending the latitude and longitude coordinates couldn’t equally work please - I just don’t twig the advantage?
All about ease of use. I imagine the % of UK population that understands how to give their position via longitude and latitude is tiny. Also full integration with @googlemaps and other apps like @viewranger etc.
If someone gets a trailing digit wrong using longitude and latitude, there still is approximate information in the message. Spell a word wrong and it may be a wild goose chase.
We have intentionally placed similar 3 word combinations very far apart so it is immediately obvious if a mistake has been made and the correct 3 word address can be selected.pic.twitter.com/FY7jag1YuX
Understood, but a garbled message might send rescuers on a wild goose chase.
Hi Mungo, a garbled message will affect communication of any form of location information. Given that in most scenarios emergency services are looking in defined areas, our distribution algorithm means even a large errors can be corrected.
