In addition to avoidable delay of citizen downloading and using app, W3W has serious soundex issues where words like cold and gold could further delay location verification.

Available in 37 languages, but the same square uses three different works in each language, not a translation, so each grid square appears to have 37 ‘different’ w3w addresses....confused ?? ...me too

Each 3m square has been addressed in 37 languages. Similar sounding words are placed far apart making errors obvious. http://w3w.co works without app download. Some use what3words to turn the GPS coordinates they get from AML to words making onward communication easier.

I agree that error is obvious. But with soundex issues you need to know which word is wrong. 9-1-1/1-1-2 emergency response is all about seconds. Our systems are specifically designed to handle words that sound similar. Can see call takers getting frustrated..

Let me be more specific. If someone with a heavy accent used ///gold.vase.long, how long would it take for the call taker to figure out they didn't say ///cold.face.wrong...or any of the crazy combinations including your plurals like faces and vases...

Heavy accents affect any form of location communication. Error detection works in <1s. Combined with expert call handlers it is efficient. We can continue to debate but we are just pleased the system is being embraced by UK emergency services & used to save lives right now.

It’s important to remember that
@what3words is an additional tool for 999 call handlers to use (in a role where there aren’t many tools).
