Good point Nate. I hadn’t thought of that. I shared some concerns from @edent last week that are also worth a read

Available in 37 languages, but the same square uses three different works in each language, not a translation, so each grid square appears to have 37 ‘different’ w3w addresses....confused ?? ...me too

Each 3m square has been addressed in 37 languages. Similar sounding words are placed far apart making errors obvious. http://w3w.co works without app download. Some use what3words to turn the GPS coordinates they get from AML to words making onward communication easier.

The problem still persists that if my Finnish wife uses the app in Suomi then tries to relate the address to me, invariably in English as Finnish word are uber difficult, the English translation of the three Finnish words are not the w3w English address

Translation of words between languages can be prone to error so we find totally different word list is clearer & avoids confusion. In practice we haven't heard of any incidences of difficulties with this approach. You can always share in multiple languages. Or brush up on Suomi!pic.twitter.com/090lyFVuUB

My point exactly, translate the Finnish back to English and you get http://circulation.view.football , which is 7618 km away near Meeker, Colorado.

The languages versions are all independent and are not translations. To share a 3 word address in a different language you can use the app to convert Suomi to a English and vice versa.

Exactly...still can’t quite see how having 37 different untranslatable ‘addresses’ for the same spot is better than a lat/long which is pretty accurate to <3m and independent of language....noticed your last screen shot had a slider for lat/long if it all get too confusing!!

If lat/lon works for you and your friends then great! We find that errors tend to creep in and they are problematic when trying to communicate especially by voice.pic.twitter.com/Xm6exX397Y
