Seeing the same thing in the US. 9-1-1 agencies are convinced that edge cases exist where a caller could provide W3Ws, but somehow ELS/AML wouldn't be there. They want to pay for W3W implementation despite ELS being free.

Your blog post is sensible Nick. The media & social media hype around W3W needs a more measured response. Too many are jumping on the W3W bandwagon without understanding it. Imagine a caller delaying a call to 999 to download and look up W3W first because they’ve seen the tweets

The US case is a little more extreme. RapidSOS has offered to provide a web based map showing ELS (basically AML) location at zero cost to agencies, so they have access to high quality data with or without CAD modification. To add to Ross's concern...

In addition to avoidable delay of citizen downloading and using app, W3W has serious soundex issues where words like cold and gold could further delay location verification.

Available in 37 languages, but the same square uses three different works in each language, not a translation, so each grid square appears to have 37 ‘different’ w3w addresses....confused ?? ...me too
