      It’s an awesome idea, however in a rural area during a recent ‘incident’ that I helped at we couldn’t get a data signal, so couldn’t generate WTW. So did a OSGB grid red instead!

      You can search for a 3 word address (and find your current) on the app, even when using it offline, although the map may not load. You can then navigate to any 3 word address using compass mode. If this didn't work for you, could you send a DM with more info so we can help?

      But how do you search when it’s in the middle of nowhere and there is no way of downloading a map?

      You phone tells the w3w app it’s location with sufficient accuracy. You don’t need to manually check a map.

          But I need a signal of some kind. Not always possible in our more remote parts of the country! (Or even on my train journey from the south coast into London..)

          Try putting your phone into airplane mode and open the what3words app...your phone still gets GPS (even though it may not show the map). It will give you your 3 word address (you need a way to communicate this, but you managed with your OS grid reference by the sounds of it)
