I was talking to a friend about it last week. It’s on my list of things to try. Are you referring to the freebsd-ports-gnome repo or something else?

Yup, that one. I might build it on my Ryzen machine and then move it to the X230, gnome is a huuuuge beast to build. Have your friend tried it already?

Yeah he’s running it on 12-CURRENT. I’d be curious to know how you go. Are you going to to try with FreeBSD 11 or 12. My friend thinks it should work with 11 too.

Does it runs well? It works OK on Gentoo without systemd so I’m assuming it will on FreeBSD too. There is somebody saying that it works on 11.1 too. I’ll try to setup a poudriere node. I only use CURRENT on desktops/notebooks, because of more recent software.
