Sure. The standard makes sense, I’m just questioning the choice as a default for the formatter. Then again, defaults are all about assumptions, and making assumptions both as a writer and as a reader is hard at the best of times.

Yeah I was mostly pointing out that this isn’t really a failing of Java, nor unique to it. They’re following a standard that made a questionable choice.
