Do you guys have data about how much JavaScript actually impacts performance? Most of the latency, CPU time and memory usage comes from the architecture not GJS. Once we fix the GC issues JS will not be the culprit. If you don't believe me, try running standalone mutter.
This discussion has made me consider re-evaluating some DE shells that are more aligned with my desire for a lighter weight, JS-free shell. I don't think it's fair to be complaining about something when there are other options to try.
