    Hmm the issues I was seeing loading Twitter and Reddit on Void Linux (musl) are still happening on elementary... must be something to do with my network/Wi-Fi and not the distro like I thought.

    After 3 years I’m going to give another try on my laptop (not my primary device). I’ve installed it alongside Void and Windows. I’m toying with the idea of using Nix or pkgsrc to help manage the installation of up to date dev dependencies and preferred tools.

    15 years ago I made my first contribution to the project, fixing a missing ; in a since removed driver. Today I'm traveling to and a FreeBSD devsummit. Even small open source contributions are important, and can get you very far in the long run.

    Related reminder: Apple released a brand new file system in 2017, and it can't even *detect* corruption of user data because they didn't include any checksumming. They say that the disks take care of that. An Apple computer just silently corrupted my relatively small data set.
