it's alright, but it's clear to me now that a lot of why the original films were good was because they were able to just take speeches word for word from the books almost

I gotta say some of the dialogue feels more like D&D than Tolkien but on the whole I didn't find it terrible so far

I don't think it's bad, but it just doesn't have the same weight that the original does for some reason. I don't think they've even used any of the poetry either.
Tolkien could write poetic and authentic sending dialogue because he was an oxford don steeped in English history and philology. I'm guessing the writers room doesn't have anyone with that kind of life experience
