Here's the opinion of someone who actually studies child language acquisition on the masking/speech issue. tl;dr only going to present problems if the child is deaf. Most language acquisition occurs before age 3 so it will occur in-home. School is mainly for expanding lexicon

This is the only study I could find that directly looked at infant directed speech with masks. They did find an effect on recognition, but with caveats. And as mentioned most parents probably aren't going to be masked at home

Basically in order to really know what the effect is there'll need to be a longitudinal study, but not enough time has passed for that so we'll have to wait
