I haven't seen any evidence of speech delays being caused but it seems like a lot of people aren't aware of the fact that speech perception is inherently multimodal, i.e. pretty much all humans (aside from blind people) will use that information if it's there.

Based on this study it seems like people can adapt pretty easily which is what you'd expect I think
