Your periodic reminder that Richard “RMS” Stallman, creator of the GPL license and president of the Free Software Foundation, is a misogynist, a pedophile, and thinks of disabled people as pets. Free software folks continue to glorify him. Receipts:https://twitter.com/sarahmei/status/817377232016457728 …

Eric “ESR” Raymond is no treat of a person either, but he is no longer in charge of or a spokesperson for the OSI, the way RMS is still in charge of and a spokesperson for the FSF.https://twitter.com/pulkomandy/status/1167817128826822658 …

I mean I do consider OSI somewhat chronically entangled with exploitation as well... at least as currently practiced. But I don’t particularly see why we need to adopt FSF or OSI. I would love to see if research into ethical licenses goes anywhere.

@creativecommons has considered creating software oriented licenses in the past, but decided against it for some reason. Maybe they should do a spinoff?1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -
So far what exists is https://github.com/raisely/NoHarm which is nowhere near ready for primetime. FSF/OSI/CC all claim it's "not feasable" / "not a good idea" but I believe that has more to do with an inherent bias against "code being political" than actual insurmountable legal obstacles.

That's really interesting. I hadn't heard of it before. Thanks!
