I find it really bizarre that every drum notation page I look at (online or physical) seems to be different. Can you imagine different piano guides showing different notes as middle C?

I took lessons from a drummer who played in an orchestra, so he had me learn to read and write actual sheet music for drums (i.e. what an orchestra would use). Definitely made things much easier. I don't see the point in using wacky alternative notations

I think we're thinking of the same thing - but different notations put (say) the snare on "B" or "C above middle C" (thinking in a treble-stave manner).

Oh absolutely. Yup, I'm definitely looking for "this looks a bit like a musical score, but with X for some notes"... I just want a consistent mapping from note to drum.
