“What’s with these dev comedians?” and “Giving a talk doesn’t make you a good developer” are mealy-mouthed ways of saying “I feel threatened by people who can code *and* communicate, so I will devalue the communication part as much as possible.”

One day I want to be able to say “if you can’t communicate effectively, you can’t participate in tech” because clearly we aren’t there yet. Keep up the great work 👍✊👏 (wish I could have attended your talk, sounds spectacular)

There seems to be a huge push to get people to do public speaking even if it causes them tremendous anxiety though, which I think is harmful

💯Agree here too. Context is hard on twitter but that’s an explanation, not an excuse. I should have taken three seconds to clarify. I apologize. There are countless ways to be good communicators in science/tech that don’t involve public speaking 👍
