“What’s with these dev comedians?” and “Giving a talk doesn’t make you a good developer” are mealy-mouthed ways of saying “I feel threatened by people who can code *and* communicate, so I will devalue the communication part as much as possible.”

One day I want to be able to say “if you can’t communicate effectively, you can’t participate in tech” because clearly we aren’t there yet. Keep up the great work 👍👏 (wish I could have attended your talk, sounds spectacular)

💯Agree here too. Context is hard on twitter but that’s an explanation, not an excuse. I should have taken three seconds to clarify. I apologize. There are countless ways to be good communicators in science/tech that don’t involve public speaking 👍

My beef is that even though all these talks go on, many are not distributed, therefore have limited benefit/audience. I wouldn't recommend someone jump right into public speaking if it's anxiety inducing. My personal recommendation is getting into 1:1 mentoring. ;)
