    For all of you orgs that aren't logging Citrix and have to export the entire log directory... zgrep -r "nobody" * Easy button to find the first post-exploitation logs from bash.log (thanks and ). Now's a good time to get those logs pumping to [insert SIEM]

    Whether or not you agree with on OSTs, you have to admire his civility on Twitter. If people treated me the way he has been treated I would’ve already pitched this to my local senator just to spite those people even though I don’t believe in stopping OST distribution.

    Note:TA505 != Dridex. They were massively spreading it, with, as customer, Necurs. Dridex 125 then 220 and 7200, but also Locky 3, Trickbot mac1 before moving to ServerHelper and FlawedAmmyy. Other actor are spreading Dridex. Smilex was part of the team spreading Dridex 120.

    Who do I know that would put emojis in a password?

    Are unicode characters in passwords a good or bad idea? If well implemented, adding emojis and other unicode characters should massively increase entropy, right? Assumes some minimal good UTF handling practices on the server side to work but hashable is hashable... or?

    This is why I screen every applicant myself. With the technical diversity in InfoSec, it’s odd that we ever thought a recruiter would be able to effectively filter candidates.

    "Your intern is pretty awesome." "Yeah, 3 years OJT as an analyst, two major presentations, great people skills... sucks to be you." "Why's that?" "He applied for your open security analyst job and your HR system screened him out in 60 seconds." "WHAT?!?"

    TIL: I've probably been using the term nation-state incorrectly a non-zero percent of the time (for a decade?). Further research seems to indicate no one knows how to properly use it and thus my linguistical deficiencies have few impacts beyond annoying intelligence analysts.

    Identifying the root cause is very important but is often not practical due to the operational environment. Like many infosec questions, it comes back to scale, preparedness, and evaluating risk. What say you?

    How important is determining the initial vector in an intrusion? Very important = You don't stop until you do. Kind of important = you try and eventually stop. Not important = you eradicate and move on. Separately, feel free to comment on how often you prove initial vector.

    Modeling is an incredibly useful activity in . The tricky part is balancing complexity and value. I think of modeling as an abstract process and the more specific your model becomes the less useful it is.
