I got curious as to why MS Word on Mac has such a large application file. Among other things, it turns out it contains grammar tools for pretty much every language out there. I'm really amused as the file size differences. I've heard Finnish was a hard language but really now.pic.twitter.com/aIza6XxWwK

I dunno. Russian's a relatively cohesive language, isn't it? English is such a hodgepodge... "We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary."

Glorious quote. :) Lexemes are one thing, grammar another. I’m mostly whining because I’m taking Russian as my language and it has SIX CASES (the horror) and demands verb, noun, adjective agreement. Also grammatical gender & some animacy/inanimacy.

Actually, six cases is just what we tell little kids :) The real number is scarier - somewhere between 9 and 15. Googling сколько падежей в русском языке can lead you down a fun rabbit hole

Finnish grammar certainly is complex in some respects. Theoretically, a word can have 1000s of forms (but only a fraction of those are used in practice). No Chinese on the list, also no Russian and many others Slavic languages. Hmmm. Maybe then grammar packs are bad there or not yet developed to extent as English pack.
