Does anyone, on either side of the political aisle, actually think that the DPRK would give up its nuclear capability without receiving in exchange commitments that the US would not be willing to give? If the answer is "no" — what happens when this (inevitably) becomes clear?

Speaking of military delusions, I can't believe that China would tolerate an unprovoked American attack on North Korea.
-
I don't think China would risk their own populace/infrastructure/etc. for North Korea's security, but I don't think they'd take such a thing lightly, no. But I don't know what they'd do. I don't know if they know, either, at this point. Hopefully nobody has to find out.

I think this all has more to do with China & South Korea than Trump & Pompeo. In fact, I think US is getting played by China which is positioning itself to be, if not already, the dominant Pacific power & ultimately world power. China & SK have invited NK into world of nations.

Moon, Xi, & Kim all know how to play Trump and they all have been doing it. Trump takes credit for Kim’s change on nukes, while China consolidates more power.

NK did this before and negotiated the framework agreement with the US in the early 90’s. It collapsed for multiple reasons, including NK cheating and US not fulfilling its commitments due to GOP takeover of Congress in 1994.

It’s certainly possible that KJU is stalling for time until Trump is gone and their deterrent is fully developed. We’d need an Iran-style deal with full inspections and oversight for this to be credible.
