Question for the missile experts. For the Polaris A1 missile — would the RV have had the little guidance part or just the RV in its final descent? Trying to make a diagram but finding not much information on this front.pic.twitter.com/XBxRV6uyXL

Some of the ICBM rvs have a flared out base that was part of the ablative shell. But I'm looking at photo of an A1 on the Polaris Wikipedia page. No flare. So I have to assume the guidance package would be discarded for the ballistic phase.
Amateur here, but based on some photos of the MRV on the polaris 2, I believe you are correct that guidance breaks off and it goes to warhead + reentry vehicle only
1) work with a guy who was at Vandenburg for a while: “I have no direct knowledge of Polaris system, but based on what I know of other systems, the answer is neither.
2) “The guidance unit doesn’t jettison w/the 2nd stage, nor does it remain attached to the warhead thru flight termination. It is jettisoned at some point during terminal flight.”
