How is the YouTube recommendation algorithm so... bad? Today it suggested that I might enjoy watching Fox News Live, AND that I should watch Peppa Pig. Aside from the fact that those are bad matches individually, how did it conclude that BOTH were simultaneously appropriate?
I keep reading about how scarily smart these algorithms are, but I've just not seen it. With all my browsing habits, etc., they ought to know me a BIT better, if their coders are earning their pay. (They've never offered me anything on nukes, or history! I mean, come on!)

The music suggestions are really good, but the political suggestions are just weird... why do I get so many conspiracy and anti-feminist suggestions?
Maybe they thought you were in China, where Peppa Pig is a big hit? And the verbal style on Fox News is roughly the same as the dialog on Peppa Pig (except PP is more realistic) so that's why they match?
YouTube once recommended me Dragon Ball Z videos based (it claimed) on me having watched an Electric Light Orchestra video. Another time, weird right wing conspiracies for having watched Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street".
