I made a comic about the threat of nuclear war, and the surreality of the nuclear launch command chain for @thenib. Among others this was inspired by articles from @BulletinAtomic and @wellerstein and podcasts from @Radiolab https://thenib.com/how-we-nuke?utm_campaign=web-share-links&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter … via @thenib

Yep, they are! As for "how do I know" — I research this for a living. I've met the people who have made them, planned to use them. I've seen their effects, written in human flesh, fused glass, radioactive byproducts. I've seen thousands (millions?) of pages of corroborating data.

The notion that somehow, every physicist in every country, from 1945 until now, has been in on some kind of conspiracy to deny basic, easily-verifiable science... is dumb. Just dumb. Sorry. You are wasting your time on dumb stuff. There are less-dumb conspiracies out there.

Why assume that I'm wasting time on this? Why assume that millions of people believing something has any bearing on it. Some things are worth pondering just for entertainment value.

and I don't think conspiracy theories are very entertaining. we have enough stupid, false, fake information clouding up the world as it is. it's not a positive thing, it's part of the problem.

Yes, but how do we know what's true and what's fake if we don't discuss it? Osmosis?
