I have thought about comparisons with the Tsar Bomba, e.g., within the bounds of plausibility and research, could be deployable in some numbers, but unlikely to be some kind of thing of great importance, more political posture than strategic posture.

I think that's an accurate take on the situation. My guess is that there is maybe some crazy design work going on, but not much more. There are all kinds of things Putin might call a demonstration.
