See Ordinary Muslim at the New York Theater Workshop. See Farinelli and the King.

Farinelli! I was considering but it looked it a bit... Slow paced. Do you recommend it?

I’m going this evening. Can’t miss Rylance.

I saw an 8pm show tonight I was considering. Rylance is amazing but wasn't sure I'd enjoy it enough to spend 70 bucks. Perhaps I'll reconsider.

It's OK. I like Rylance, and the way they handle the singing is interesting, but the plot is a bit thin. If you do go, my dinner recommendation (esp. since it is so walkable today) is Ariana Restaurant in Hell's Kitchen (HK in general for theatre eats). Great hole-in-wall.

The play was okay but, as you say, thin. Unlike me after this meal at Ariana. Damn me, it was good.

Glad you enjoyed the meal! And yeah, play felt a little "meh." Rylance hamming it up a bit more than necessary. (The other "big" play/musical of the season, "And the Band Played On," is similarly thin.)

I’ll cede on Rylance - felt he wasn’t challenged by the piece.

I admit I thought, "why did he do this role? this is so small for someone whose talents are so large," and later I saw that he was married to the playwright and I guess it made more sense.

Also I winced at many of the jokes. As a historian I cannot stand heavy-handed "DIDYA KNOW THE SANDWICH WAS INVENTED IN THIS TIME PERIOD TOO?"-style humor. I thought the way they did the singing was interesting and worth the attendance though.

I laughed only at the 'phillistines' joke when Farinelli said he could sing in English.
