(Apologies for the photo quality — this was taken on my potato phone camera. The next time I am in midtown with my real camera I'll go take a better one of it...)

is there a point to civil defense shelters?http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x121ctu
-
Depends where you're located. They were never intended for blast defense, but a properly stocked shelter can protect you from fallout. As MIRV warheads get smaller and more accurate, chances of surviving initial attack are much higher. Threads was how many decades ago?
-
The chance of survival once a nuclear exchange begins depends not how close you are to a detonation, but on whether fighting escalates at all. Given proliferation and tactical nukes, its more dangerous today than when Threads came out in 1984.

I remember back in the 80's there were placards on the bulkheads of the
@Canal_Ferry in#NewOrleans with instructions on what to do in case of nuclear fallout (wash down decks, I guess). I doubt very much if the signs are still there. I wish I had a photo.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
