How do historians of science not lose their minds listening to scientists talk as if they understand the history of science?

Are scientists worse about history of science than other fields about history of their field?
I think scientists invoke the history of their field more than most other disciplines. It is part of constructing the identity and importance of their work. I don't think, say, economists tend to invoke the history of economics as a justification for doing what they do.
