@wellerstein In my history of science class we had to come up with a question to ask you, so here goes: What was your inspiration behind starting your blog, and using your twitter thread as a form of public engagement for your work?

(It ended up being more successful than I ever could have imagined at that, and now I have many more publishing options than I did when I started it, which is one of the reasons I don't post as much to the blog as I used to!)
As for Twitter — I was a relatively late adopter, mostly initially as a means of promoting my blog work. I've since found it to be a useful way of having interesting conversations with other experts and interested (and interesting) people.

Both the blog and Twitter have been very useful ways of engaging more publicly and bringing my historical work (and thoughts) to broader audiences. They've created opportunities for me that I am sure would not have existed were I doing the same work 20 years ago.
