In the 19th Century, when there was political unease at the idea of a Channel tunnel btw England/France, one suggestion was that a button in London could be connected to an explosive charge that could collapse the tunnel in the event of war between the two countries.

(They of course went on to build the tunnel about 100 years later - without the explosives.)
