There was a documentary a number of years back with William Shatner as narrator covering the history of the Atom and Nuclear Bomb and a segment called "Rainbow Weapons"
There were certainly high-altitude nuclear tests prior to the Limited Test Ban Treaty (1963) and the Outer Space Treaty (1967). The tests were not on satellite platforms (they were just sent up on rockets).
