You know what? I’ve never met a Jew offended by being wished a Merry Christmas. Saying Happy Holidays or Happy Chanukah is an extra-thoughtful gesture, but I never expect strangers to divine my religion.

To be honest, the only seasonable well-wishing I have ever found jarring is when people have assumed (good-naturedly) that I celebrate Hanukkah because of my last name! It always felt like the bigger assumption (and has only happened on the East Coast, a few times).
