@wellerstein The Christy gadget: Lorna Arnold wrote "The solid implosion gadget invented by Peierls and Christy, called the Christy gadget, but was Peierls idea" They have joint patent. Szasz also implies P v imp. Any insight please?
There definitely was a Peirels+Christy patent (still secret, filed August 27, 1946), "Method and apparatus for explosively releasing nuclear energy" — so that is entirely plausible.

As for genesis of idea... there are a few people who have claimed to have been first to suggest solid core (including Teller, who says in his Memoirs it came out of his work with Gamow on iron core of the Earth). Christy was one who fleshed it out, though, as I understand it.

My notes have Peierls credited for "idea of modulated neutron source" combined with the solid implosion of Christy. Dont know the source of the note(!) Maybe a leak from secretpatent (?). Am finalising checks for my m/s "Trinity" on Peierls, Fuchs and MI5/FBI
