I found the excerpt unreadable, so I'm grateful to you two for reading it for me. I'm having a lot of trouble reading first-person pov lately, so that may just be me.

Aside from its writing issues (and I agree that the mind revolts against reading it), the author sounds like he entered into this project with zero background knowledge on the subject. It is then an unnecessarily long description of going to meet with Flerov,

who predictably doesn't say much about Fuchs (probably because he was compartmentalized out of intel knowledge!) and who instead talks about how the Soviet scientists have been under-appreciated (the standard story). It's... not a promising start to a book about Fuchs.

The author also, at least in this excerpt, dramatically under-states the existing literature on Fuchs. It is not an open question whether Fuchs had any secrets to share, for example.
