So i'm not ever in the business of historical firsts being meaningful in and of themselves, BUT: I *think* Sierra On-Line's Adventure Game Interpreter is the world's first game engine. Can anyone on the internet prove me wrong?

Folks have suggested this before. My party line is that I don't think I consider something like Infocom's Z-machine a game engine because it doesn't do asset management...but i could be argued with on that.
