Agreed. Dangerous brinksmanship by two irresponsible politicians, working themselves into corners with their rhetoric.
Deescalation still possible. But at least one side (ideally both) would have to participate. Will either? And if not — where does it lead?

Unrelated question: assuming a 150kT atmospheric test, at various altitude bursts, what radii are civilian aircraft electronics at risk?

No clue. I have a basic model that can work for low-altitude EMP effects, but I don't know what signal strength would damage an airplane.

US airplanes seem to be designed (per EMP Report) to have some resilience from EMP & EMP-like effects, for what it is worth.
