Conversations (notably on FB) have made it clear to me that many (not all) people who oppose ACA do not know at all how insurance works.
Efforts to politely engage — e.g., ask how they might solve the risk pool/prior conditions dilemma — result in total shutdown of discussion.

It just becomes empty slogans about freedom, Communism, etc. Depressing in the end, when you encounter just ignorance (not diff of opinion).

The emphasis on absolute individualism over the past thirty years has taken its toll.

The thing is, I don't think these people actually *want* that world. But they don't think it through at all. Politics by slogans, not ideas.
