1) I don't want to diminish the horror of the atomic attacks on Hiroshima & Nagasaki, but I do feel we need to clear up a misconception.
And with Nagasaki in particular: the USAAF *truly* did not think it was a very important target in 1945.

The USAAF bombed Nagasaki five times in the year leading up to, but yes it was mostly down to weather conditions.
