How many of these people against the use of the bomb had any military service?
Depends on "these people" but postwar critics included Eisenhower and Leahy. Marshall was unusual for expressing reservations pre-use.
Not sure it matters to Truman. If the bomb hadn't been dropped and 2 million were killed in an invasion of mainland Japan
Truman did, in fact, express some reservations about use against a city at times, but that is a separate issue.
I don't blame him for expressing reservations. I expect any sane person would.
I'm just saying that if there had been an invasion and anything went badly for US after US choose not to use bomb
OK, but, again, that wasn't really the only set of options on the table. So this is a non-sequitur at best, false dilemma at worst.
We will have to agree to disagree because that is the first thing that would have gone through my mind if I was Truman.
One can still say, "I am fine with how it happened." That's a position rational people can take and defend!
