@atomcentral USMC vet Tom Saffer describes being on the ground for Priscilla: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/peoplescentury/episodes/fallout/saffertranscript.html …
Thought Priscilla expected yield was 40kt Was this not case?pic.twitter.com/aIV5Et37kM
32-37 kt out of expected 40kt is my understanding
In article USMC Saffer said they expected 14KT & act yield 37kt took them surprise..
either @AtomicAnalyst or @wellerstein would know best, but my understanding is Priscilla was a stockpiled device w/known yield
Saffer may have misremembered the yield. He observed several tests.
or they were actually closer than they should have been Fascinating account either way! Enjoyed!
I tend to think a 2x+ yield overshoot w/that many troops involved would have been more commented on?
Compare with Grable — (note smoke trail just visible in last one!)pic.twitter.com/xhjRqjAmDf
good call. Grable and Priscilla both have similarities. DoE often gets confused.
Good time to note LANL's reanalyzing old films to glean new data.http://www.lanl.gov/discover/publications/national-security-science/2015-july/cold-war-films.php …
I actually did that digital manipulation to pull out shockwave. I'm working on project.
They pay me, they can take the credit. Interesting images to work on, can't reveal.
Such a tease! Well, taxpayers paid for those films, so we should be able to see them.
thank you for the clarification!
