@wellerstein good points why not mandate that items classified secret have both a reason an a time frame for being in that state
@raouf777 As for indicating a reason: I suspect there wd just end up w/a lot of blanket reasons ("national security" "sources and methods").

@wellerstein it seems a lot of the material is kept secret just to avoid embarrassing current officials -
