@wellerstein chart is bogus? A 10 GIGA tonne weapon detonated 300 MILES up? Don't think so...

-
@Hawkeyethenooo Not bogus, just not well-known — US gov't scientists did seriously research gigaton weapons in 1950s and 1960s.
-
@wellerstein yes, I've heard about it, but hasn't it (scalability) been largely discredited since? Be interested to see source link, please. -
@Hawkeyethenooo When I am not on a train I will send you the link. Re: scaling, the blast doesn't scale well, but thermal supposedly does.

@wellerstein Wouldn't a burst optimized for EMP be more effective strategically? -
@Pyotr__Stolypin You don't need gigaton weapons for EMP. And this research is just exploring the possibilities.

what is Passell 1963? There's no chart in Glasstone&Dolan or EM-1 that look anything like this graph.

@wellerstein I'm not sure about what do you find terrifying, if that is just fun! ;-) -
@drocera They never built things this big — for a variety of reasons — so it is fun. The really scary stuff is what they did build. :-) -
@wellerstein Good enough ;-)

@wellerstein You have a bizarre sense of the word "fun." But I am betting you know that. I might suggest, however, "staggering."Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
