@wellerstein Are the proud parents(?) of the baby nuke in that picture anyone we've heard of?

-
@JEB54 I don't know them -- @SchwartzCNS any idea? -
@wellerstein@JEB54 The W48 was designed at@Livermore_Lab and entered the stockpile in 1963. Perhaps a historian there could identify them. -
@SchwartzCNS
@wellerstein Whoever made it, the W48 is so compact it almost IS cute. Remarkable.

@wellerstein An interesting detail about the W48 courtesy of the late Chuck Hansen:pic.twitter.com/NhvLsH3XPO

@SchwartzCNS I gather amongst the nuke speculator community there is question about whether it was linear implosion or not.
@GeorgeWHerbert -
@wellerstein @SchwartzCNS The picture shows something weird. I have speculated it was disinformation. Still not sure... -
@GeorgeWHerbert@wellerstein It's a mock-up of a test version, not a production model.

@wellerstein didn't they later make a high yield version of this? -
@rscottkemp@wellerstein Don't think so. Highest yield shells were W19 270mm (1956-63, 10-20kt) and W23 16-in. naval gun (1956-62, 10-20kt).
