@GeneDannen @wellerstein He did? How would he know anything about that? The Japanese surrendered, that's all.
@_up_and_away_ @GeneDannen Read the history, it is more complex than you seem to know:http://blog.nuclearsecrecy.com/2014/08/08/kyoto-misconception/ …
@wellerstein Interesting, but it seems a stretch that Truman were kept out of the loop about the nature of the first 2 targets. @GeneDannen
@_up_and_away_ @GeneDannen Well, sometimes things that "seem a stretch" turn out to be true when you learn more about them.
@wellerstein Regardless, thin evidence for a spectacular claim. @GeneDannen
@_up_and_away_ @GeneDannen One works with the evidence one has to work with, and tries to avoid making erroneous assumptions.
@wellerstein Would argue that the chain of events during the days in question points in other directions. Still, it's history, not physics.
@_up_and_away_ Frankly, I am not sure you know the chain of events all that well.
@wellerstein And I in exchange think you are a bit too eager to eager to embrace counterfactuals, and not consider context.
@_up_and_away_ I do consider context, deeply. I just try to learn it, rather than assume it.
