@wellerstein I only recently learned that the U-235 was delivered by the Indianapolis, which was sunk by a sub four days later.
70 years ago today: The Indianapolis docks at Tinian, unloads the non-nuclear Little Boy bomb parts, as well as the U-235 projectile piece.

@GWilliamThomas Right, but it should be noted that the post-Tinian route of the ship was MUCH more dangerous than the pre-Tinian route.
